Best Places To Stay In Sanur

Share This Post:

Sanur isn’t the Bali most people picture when they first start planning a trip. You probably think of Seminyak’s beach clubs or Kuta’s chaos. But Sanur is the quiet one and once you’ve spent a few days there, you start to wonder why you’d ever go anywhere else.

White sands of Sanur beach

It’s one of Bali’s oldest resort areas, tourism here started long before the Instagram crowds arrived, and that history gives it a grounded, village-like feel that’s genuinely hard to find on the island particularly in the south.

There’s a 7km beachfront promenade lined with cafes, temples, and bikes for hire. The reef keeps the water calm, which makes it brilliant for families or anyone who just wants to swim without getting battered by waves. And it’s only about 20-30 minutes from the airport, which after a long-haul flight, really matters.

In this guide, I’m covering the best places to stay across every budget, from proper luxury retreats to guesthouses where the owner brings you coffee in the morning. Prices are approximate in USD for 2026 and do vary by season, but you’re generally looking at anywhere from $30 to $350 per night depending on what you’re after.

So Why Sanur?

The beach here is lovely, white sand, clear water, protected by a reef so it stays safe for swimming and paddling. The boardwalk is one of my favourite things about the place; you can rent a bike and just cruise for hours past little warungs, temples, and street art. Sunrise is something else entirely, I was out there at 6am one morning and had the whole stretch almost to myself. Worth the early alarm.

It’s also perfectly placed. Ferries to Nusa Penida leave from just down the road, so it works well as a base for day trips. And eating here is cheap if you step away from the resort menus, the local warungs on the main streets have meals for only a few dollars. One thing to flag: seaweed can wash up on the beach seasonally, which some people find off-putting. It comes and goes. Not a dealbreaker, just worth knowing.

The Luxury End

If you’re going to treat yourself somewhere, Sanur is perfect. The high-end spots here sit in the $150-350/night range, and a few of them are genuinely exceptional, not just “nice for the price,” but actually really special.

Maya Sanur Resort & Spa

This is the one I keep coming back to when people ask for a recommendation for a honeymoon or a romantic trip. The architecture is stunning, all lagoon-access rooms, private balconies, and those infinity pools that make you feel like you’re hovering over the water. The spa is excellent, the breakfast spread is impressive, and the staff have a way of making the whole place feel effortless without being over the top. It’s pricey, yes. But for a special occasion, it is definitely worth it.

Hyatt Regency Bali

A slightly different vibe, bigger, more family-oriented, with multiple pools and a private beach stretch. The grounds are beautiful, dining options are varied (the beachside setting at lunch is hard to beat), and there’s a club lounge that makes the upgrade worth it. A few people I know have returned here several times, which says something. Just skip the resort breakfast if it’s not included, there are better options outside for a fraction of the cost.

Bali Beach Hotel (The Meru Collection)

This one has history, it’s been part of Sanur’s landscape for decades and has been renovated into something truly elegant. Sea-view balconies, lagoon pools, a kids’ club, and a gym. The shared facilities with the adjacent buildings can feel a little disjointed if you’re not expecting it, but the character of the place more than compensates. It’s the sort of hotel that feels like it has a story to tell.

The Middle Ground: Great Value Without Going Overboard

This is honestly where Sanur shines brightest. The $60-200/night bracket here is stacked with good options, places with proper pools, gardens, and close enough to the beach that you won’t feel short-changed.

ARTOTEL Sanur

Boutique, stylish, with a rooftop infinity pool that catches the sunrise beautifully, this one tends to appeal to solo travellers and couples who want something with a bit more personality than a standard chain hotel. It’s not right on the beach (short walk), but the aesthetic more than makes up for it. The breakfast gets rave reviews, and it’s well-positioned for both the beach and the local shops.

Prama Sanur Beach Hotel

Direct beach access, a kids’ splash zone, a swim-up bar, and lush gardens, this one does family holidays well. The staff get consistently good feedback, there are bikes to hire, and the kids’ club means parents might actually get an hour to themselves. One minor note: pool shade is limited, so bring hats for the little ones.

Holiday Inn Bali Sanur

Don’t dismiss this one just because it’s a chain. The rooftop pool with ocean views is beautiful, the bedding is quality, and the location near the ferry terminal makes it particularly practical if you’re planning a day trip to Nusa Penida. Rooms are consistently clean and well-maintained. It’s not exciting, but it’s reliable and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Sanur Resort Watujimbar

Spacious rooms, plunge pools, and a large pool with a bar, this one punches above its price point. It’s close to the shops and beach without being right in the thick of it, which suits people who want a quieter base. Good for longer stays.

Our Budget Picks

Under $70/night in Sanur goes further than you’d expect. You’re not going to get a private villa, but there are some genuinely charming guesthouses and small hotels that make Bali feel accessible without any compromise on the experience that actually matters.

Laghawa Beach Hotel

Direct beach access, a garden pool, lotus ponds, and traditional Balinese architecture, Laghawa is one of those places that feels like a hidden gem. The grounds are quiet, the sunrise spot is hard to beat, and the whole thing has a character that you just don’t get from budget chain hotels. Rooms are on the older side and there can be some noise depending on where you’re situated, but for the price, it’s brilliant.

Kembali Lagi Guest House

Small, peaceful, and run with a level of care that you don’t always find at this price point. The pool is lovely, the breakfast gets excellent feedback, and the staff are the kind of helpful that actually makes a difference, sorting last-minute scooter hire, recommending where to eat whatever you want they’re there for you. There are family suites available, too, which makes it more versatile than it might first appear. It’s not flashy, but it’s warm and friendly.

A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Book

Stay central if you can, being walkable to the main strip of warungs and the boardwalk makes a real difference to how you experience the place. Resort dining is fine, but eating out at local spots will save you a significant amount and often taste better anyway.

Book via apps and check for shoulder season deals, late April through June, and again in September, tend to be sweet spots where prices drop but the weather holds. Peak season (July, August, and Christmas) sees rates climb sharply, so either book well ahead or be prepared to pay for it.

Renting a scooter gives you a lot more flexibility, particularly for getting to restaurants and markets beyond the main drag. Most hotels can arrange this for you. And if you’re planning a Nusa Penida day trip, check ferry times in advance, as the early morning boats tend to fill up quickly.

One last thing: check your specific hotel’s beach access before you book if that’s a priority. Some mid-range spots are a 5-10 minute walk rather than beachfront, which is fine for most people but worth knowing. The reef means tides can affect how much sand is exposed — not a huge deal, but something to bear in mind.

Why We Love Sanur

Sanur doesn’t need to be sold hard. It just works, for families, for couples, for solo travellers who want somewhere calm to decompress after months of planning. The accommodation options here span every budget without ever feeling like you’re compromising on the Bali experience.

Whether you end up at Maya’s infinity pool or a guesthouse with lotus ponds and a friendly host who knows every good warung in a five-minute radius, you’re going to be fine. More than fine, actually. That’s the thing about Sanur. It has a way of quietly exceeding expectations.
